Still waters

by joetwo

I look out upon the still waters of the lake.

It is peaceful, faint ripples exert a calming influence on me.

The deep waters of my soul match their soft motions.

Suddenly to the left, a splash.

Made by a fish, battling for its life against the relentless pursuit of a foe.

I am reminded of the struggle for life, unending, hidden by the placid mirror of the water’s surface

Of the inner depths that underlie the softest visage.
