A little old lady

by joetwo

Hobbled and old

As inoffensive as they come

Polite, talking pleasantries to all she meets

A joy to talk to, universally loved

But just that little bit racist

To those she does not know

She distrust Blacks, hates the Jews

Her Uncle was killed by Krauts

And a cousin by the Japs

POW, starved in chains

Not that it makes a difference she claims

“We burned them in the end”

This old lady, we give her slack

Because of age and illness

Her outdated opinions just lead to nods

Patronising her senility

Even the Asian doctor, who she continually shouts at

Demanding a “proper” physician

Knows that she will go soon

Taking her thinking with her

The vestiges of a fading mindset

Gone for good, hopefully
