Not Done

The battle is over
We have lost
Ungraciously at first
But the war is not over
There is much to fight over
More ground to defend
And defend it we shall
To the last man
With our last breath
Through fair means
And foul
We still have fight in us
While we stand we shall resist
Remember that always
You may have won the battle
But we are not done yet

Oversized

The Queen had an oversized throne
“It’s much too big” she’d moan
So they hacked at each leg
Back to the peg
Left a stool to get up on her own

Narrow country roads
Eighty kilometer speeds
Is total madness

Political news
Seanad votes abolition
Turkeys for christmas

Warm weather is gone
Heavy rain and thunder now
More traditional

Into the Depths

The hole waits before me
It gobbles light like a collapsed star
None of it can escape
It’s mysterious, creepy
Yet irresistibly inviting
In I go
Past cold stone
Clawing at wet rock
Until I reach a chamber
Filled with the silence of old magic
And behind I see
The whole light of the world shining through

Model

She could be a model
Effortlessly beautiful
She walks with grace
An eternal elegance
Captivating, demanding attention
Like a goddess
Deserving of worship
A panacea to any tired eye
More than perfect
More than any mere mortal
She could be a model
She would always the eye

Mid-Summer heat wave
Tepid air bears down on us
Damn you no AC!

Politicians fight
Arguing every letter
So nothing changes

Summertime drinking
On cool grass, under the sun
Very much the life

The Live Joe2

Recordings of myself telling stories live in case any of you are interested.

Joe2stories

Hi there! As I said before; I have been storytelling for some years now. The stories are told live and are usually made up just for the event that they are told. I have managed to get my mitts on the recordings of a couple of these. They are not perfect recordings, sometimes they can be a little hard to hear, you can hear heckling and laughter from the audience. Still I hope you can hear a little bit on this what you read in my written works. Anyway; Enjoy!

Cacti

They may look like they have their arms outstretched
But word to the wise
Don’t give them a hug

The palm house

Inside the palm-house
Bursting full with giant trees
Flowers tumble down

Do I need a reason

So I need a reason
To capture such beauty?
To record it beyond the confines of memory
As a treasured reminder
For when times are grim and dull
That there is beauty in the world
If you only know where to look
