Mother’s Lament

by joetwo

When you were young

It was simple

I would see your cuts, apply a plaster

and hold you until the tears went away

To me you would go and with me you would find succour

It was simple, the magical powers of a mother´s love

But now,

I see not the cuts, cuts that break into your soul

But I see how the darkness consumes you

I see each and every day how you grow worse and worse

Unable to talk, unable to ask for help

When I try to be close you push me away

Harsh words, cruel sentiments

But false, I can see the pain in your eyes

But there is No simple fix

No plaster, no kiss to take the tears away

Nothing I can do

But see you in your pain

And all I can do is share it

Join your misery in my mother’s lament
