The Timer
Waiting, ever waiting
For that noise
That piercing buzz
Of an electronic timer
Crying out for attention
Relentless, remorseless
Yet there isn’t much I can do about it
Because I set it
I control it
It serves a purpose
An annoyingly necessary purpose
So I tolerate it
Through gritted teeth
And muttered swears
For now
