Brief Stars

Hanging there in space

Held by gravity, under Newton’s spell

The stars waltz

Many sizes, many colours

Powered by nuclear fire

Moving in their eternal dance

Some stand out

Larger than the rest

Consuming their fuel with reckless abandon

The brief stars make their appearance

Here for mere moments

Instants on the cosmic scale

They quickly burn out and die

Deaths of unparalleled force and might

For seconds outshining whole galaxies

All their brothers and sisters

The ashes, blown to the stellar winds

Through their sacrifice enriching the cosmos

Adding the building blocks for you, us

Brief stars burn brightly

But in their time

Through their death

New worlds come to being
